Caljan’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets Approved by Science-Based Targets Initiative
Caljan has received official validation of its greenhouse gas emission targets from the Science-Based Targets Initiative. This milestone highlights our commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2050, aligning with the Paris Agreement’s objective of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognised corporate climate action organisation that develops tools and guidance which allow companies to set emissions reduction targets in line with what is needed to reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest. Currently, over 7000 companies across regions and industries have set their targets through the SBTi.
"Since committing to the SBTi in 2022, we have worked diligently to calculate our emissions across the entire supply chain and developed ambitious goals, aiming for an average annual emissions reduction of 5.25%. Receiving this validation marks an important step forward in our journey and reinforces Caljan’s dedication to making sustainability a core value of our company," says Henrik Olesen, Caljan CEO.
The Science-Based Targets Initiative addresses greenhouse gas emissions across three scopes: direct emissions, indirect emissions from purchased energy and indirect emissions in the value chain. Caljan’s near-term targets include a 42% reduction in Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions by 2030, while the long-term target is to reduce absolute emissions by 90% and achieve Net-Zero in all three scopes by 2050.
"The SBTi approval was the result of detailed analysis and a collaborative effort across our teams. Now, the real work begins as we focus on integrating these targets into our operations. While there are already significant initiatives in action to reduce emissions from our own operations, the most challenging but impactful task is to work with stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, to address Scope 3 emissions. It requires open communication, shared commitment and collaborative solutions, but we believe that by engaging our partners and encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices, we can achieve these ambitious targets together," says Antons Merbahs, Environmental Engineer at Caljan.
By joining the initiative, Caljan aligns with a network of leading organisations committed to meaningful climate action and transparency across its operations. Achieving the SBTi targets ensures compliance with evolving environmental regulations, demonstrates leadership within our industry, strengthens stakeholder trust and showcases accountability in the company’s sustainability efforts.
